Amanda has two lives: one as normal as her brother Eugene's, the other: a chronic sleepwalker who sleepwalks into the black hills where she's ''adopted'' by a caravan of gypsies. There, she's empowered to protect people from the ''town stalker.'' No one notices that Amanda's uncle, a singing police chief moonlighting at his greenhouse, incubates a deadly strain of locusts. When a hailstorm destroys the greenhouse, the locusts are released, and Amanda learns from the gypsies how to stop the pestilence. While still a teenager, Amanda and her painter-husband move to SoHo, New York's art mecca. Munk is her Svengali and master of drugs. After giving birth, she must take care of her erratic husband and her newborn, precipitating a psychotic break. But her fortune changes as she spies on gypsy workers in the factory next door. Why do they wear hairnets and baby blue dresses when the candy factory has long since closed? Why are they rustling through stacks of letters and bringing coffin-sized trunks into the dark recesses of the factory? Amanda s world is dangerous--her psychic gift of seeing omens in everyday occurrences shows her how to capture the love she searches for--one with consequences she could never imagine.

Unexpected joy:))
By E. Sobczak
Okay, one thing is clear about this novel, you either love it or hate it. It depends on your taste. I was sceptical about reading it but the title really grab my attention. And here I am writing about it. I had no idea this book will keep me entirely exciting about what happens next. I enjoyed reading it. The language was sometimes hard to understand but whatever I did not understand, I knew I will get the whole concept of it. It is much better than sitting with a translator.
So...
This is a great written novel about a young girl Amanda growing up with her parents in Pennsylvania. Her mother struggles with dad's lifestyle but she cares too much about him and she believes that every time he does something wrong, he always comes back to her and appreciates her even more. Aunt Ruth is a pretty smart women, and her few statements (advices toward Amanda's life) will stay with me for quite a while. Amanda and her family lives in a small town, where everybody knows everyone. Amanda's life starts to be full of experience when she moves to Florida with Munk. They planed the wedding in Florida, unfortunately no one from Amanda's family could come because of $$$, but Munk's mom took a good care of it; it seemed like she invited all people who lived around, even delivery guy :))
This part was sad from my point of you, I felt same way when I got married, so I sort of took Amanda's place for a moment. Life with Munk wasn't easy, he worked hard on becoming the greatest artist ever, however he chooses drags over their marriage. They remain together for a while. After having some complication in FL they moved to New York. Amanda recalls her sleepwalking episodes and her not mature life yet in Pennsylvania. Amanda becomes a women who gives everything and receives nothing in return. She supports her husband's love for art, but at the same time, she forgets that life is worth more than ....just live life in someone else shoes. This novel kept me engaged with the story, couldn't just read one chapter, I finished it in two days.
The interesting part of Amanda's life is when she meets Kenny, another artist, why? She had already bad example being with Munk, at least she was happy having her son. Kenny was painter, he always asked about Munk. Does he love her or Munk's work? Why Amanda didn't get divorce earlier? Why she rented a room to strange girl? I think she was tired of men and wanted someone young and fresh in her full of difficulties life.
We could debate on lots of things from this book....which I really like but
... in order to understand it you just have to read the novel :)) :))

Sleeping with Gypsies
By Jack Miller
This is a very well written novel about the trials and tribulations of a sensitive girl growing up in a small town in Pennsylvania and moving with her artist husband to New York City. This novel keeps the reader engaged as Amanda, the heroine recalls her sleepwalking episodes as a child and the bond she develops with them as they leave mysterious gifts for her to find when she awakens. She recalls her childhood life in Pennsylvania with candor and honesty and describes her longing for a more exciting life in the big city Upon moving to New York City, Amanda becomes immersed in the New York York art world as she and her husband Munk navigate the politics of success. However Amanda becomes jaded as her husband's fame increases and her own life supporting him becomes less alluring. Upon loosing a dear friend to cancer Amanda has an epiphany that her life with Munk has become predictable and unfulfilling and after a messy breakup at the Plaza Hotel Amanda reasseses her future. After her breakup with Munk she meets an exciting young artist named Kenny and re-experiences her youth as Kenny and she navigate a new life together.
Amanda is also psychic and begins to have premonitions about the strange comings and goings of factory workers at a local chocolate covered cherry factory which leads to the novel's dramatic conclusion. This book kept me thoroughly engaged and I couldn't put it down the entire weekend.

Book Review
By Jacob R.
Sleeping With Gypsies is an intriguing novel about a girl named Amanda and her journey through life. Told through the eyes of Amanda, the novel begins with her childhood. She describes her childhood through a series of family backgrounds and relationships, including a notable event with her uncle, whose prized greenhouse is destroyed and dangerous locust are released. The novel follows Amanda as she navigates through adolescence, marries young and moves to New York City where the ups and downs of her relationships are unveiled.
As Amanda's life progresses, her personal struggles become the main focus of the novel. The pressures of motherhood and relationships take their toll on Amanda's mental wellbeing as she encounters different situations and people. Ginny MacKenzie's writing brings the reader on a literary rollercoaster of emotions as she exposes the main character.
Overall, I thought the book was a good read. Throughout the novel, the scenes jump around, making it sometimes hard to follow. However, the book was interesting and always left me wanting to read more. In the end, everything comes together, creating a compelling and intriguing novel.
